Upton, who garnered his first monthly honor, hit .324 in 26 games during June. He also belted five homers, scored 20 runs and had 22 RBI, and smacked an AL- best 10 doubles, all while posting a .562 slugging percentage. In addition, he paced the majors with 14 steals.

Angels outfielder Juan Rivera, who hit .290 and Blue Jays designated hitter Adam Lind, who had a .650 slugging percentage, were runners-up for the award. Also receiving votes was Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, who topped the majors with a .407 batting average for the month.
