06/06/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The surging Chicago Cubs aim to maintain their dominance of the Los Angeles Dodgers this season when these two high-profile clubs resume a four-game series tonight at Dodger Stadium.
Chicago remained unbeaten against the Dodgers in 2008 with a 5-4 victory in Thursday's opener of this set. Kosuke Fukudome's RBI single off countryman Takashi Saito in the top of top of the ninth inning accounted for the winning margin.
Fukudome also had a solo home run for the Cubs, who won for the 10th time in 11 games. Mark DeRosa also finished with two hits and a homer on the evening, while Ryan Theriot went 3-for-5 and scored the tie-breaking run.
Theriot greeted Saito (3-2) with a double and came home when Fukudome lashed a single to right off the Japanese closer.
The hit made a winner of Bob Howry (2-2), who allowed the Dodgers to tie the contest in the eighth after serving up a solo homer to Jeff Kent. Kerry Wood worked out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth to record his 17th save.
Kent also homered off Cubs starter Ryan Dempster earlier in the game. Chin- Lung Hu added an RBI triple for the struggling Dodgers, losers of nine of their last 11 contests.
Chicago swept a three-game series from Los Angeles at Wrigley Field from May 26-28 and is now 7-3 at Chavez Ravine since the start of the 2005 campaign.
Sean Gallagher will shoot for a third straight winning start when he takes the mound for the Cubs tonight. The rookie's strong run began with seven sharp innings against the Dodgers on May 27.
In that game, Gallagher held Los Angeles to one run and four hits to record his second major league win. The 22-year-old followed up with a victorious effort against Colorado on Sunday, in which he allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings and fanned a career-best eight Rockies.
Hiroki Kuroda gets the call for the Dodgers tonight and will be trying to rebound from his worst outing in the big leagues.
The longtime Japanese League hurler lasted just 2 1/3 innings during Sunday's 6-1 road loss to the Mets, with Kuroda getting tagged for six runs and seven hits before his early exit.
Prior to that poor start, Kuroda had posted a respectable 3.29 earned run average over 11 starts. That included a strong showing at Wrigley Field on May 27, when Kuroda yielded just two runs (1 earned) through 6 1/3 innings of a hard-luck loss.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.
Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1.
